1828– 1829 The Russo-Turkish war. When the Russian
army approached the Danube, Ukrainian
Cossacks of the Danubian Sich that had been
formed after destroyal of the Zaporozhian
Sich by Catherine II, headed by a kosh
otaman Yosyp Hladky joined the Russian
army. After the was over, Cossacks of the
Danubian Sich returned to Ukraine. They
were settled on the coast of the Azov Sea
between Berdyansk and Mariupil’ by order of
the tsar. It got the name of Azov Cossack
Host (1830). It was liquidated in 1865,
Cossacks obtained the status of state peasants.
