1818 - 1819 – Masonic lodge ‘Love of truth”
in Poltava (23 members). It was headed by M.
Novykov. Members: I. Kotlyarevsky, V.
Lukashevych, S Kochubey ad other.
1818-1822 – Masonic lodge “Unity of Slavs’
in Kyiv (80 members). It included V.
Rosnishevsky, P. Kharlynsky, P. Olizer.
1822 – activity of lodges was forbidden by
the tsar’s decree.
1818 O. Pavlovsky’s book “The Grammar of Little
Russian dialect” was published in Petersburg.
It became the first scholastic grammar of the
Ukrainian language. Ukrainian linguistics was
originated by that work.
1819 Prince M. Tsertelyev published the first
collection of “The Experience of Collection
of Little Russian Songs” in Petersburg. That
work initiated Ukrainian study of folklore.
1819 The uprising of military settlers in
Chuhuyev, Kharkiv province. The rebels
demanded to liquidate military settlements.
The regular army opposed them 80 people
were flogged. In 1829 military settlers rose
with arms in Shebelyntsya (Kharkiv
province). 109 rebels got lost, 143 members
of the uprising were arrested.
1819– 1820 The Decembrist movement. Establishments
of boards of Petersburg “Union of Prosperity”
in Tul’chyn and Poltava.
1820 The gymnasium in Nizhyn was opened for
the money donated by Russian chancellor
