1846 “The History of Rusy” was published by O.
Bodyansky in Moscow. It was found in
manuscript in 1828 in Novhorod-Siversky. It
was distributed as manuscript. It was "the
declaration of autonomism", where an
unknown author justified the right of Ukraine
to have a wide political autonomy as a part of
the Russian state.
January The activity of The Brotherhood of Saints
1846 - March Cyril and Methodius. It was founded by M.
1847 Kostomarov, the professor of Kyiv university.
V. Bilozersky, M. Hulak, P. Kulish and other
became the cofounders of the society. T.
Shevchenko took an active part in its
activities. It enumerated 12 active members
and about 100 people acted as supporters. The
program statements of the brotherhood were
developed in “Genesis of the Ukrainian
People”, “The Statutes of the Brotherhood of
Saints Cyril and Methodius”. The society put
as their goals:
1) to unify all Slavic peoples into one
federation on the principles of equality and
freedom;
2) to abolish serfdom and autocracy;
3) to liquidate inequality of people;
4) to introduce universal education among
people;
5) to reconstruct the society on the principles
of Christianity and gradually spread the order
of Christianity onto the whole world;
6) to declare the idea of Messianism of the
Ukrainian people as their historic mission, to
