                              abolished;
                              - all additional works were to be paid for;
                              - landlords did not have the right to interfere
                              in peasants’ personal life, punish them
                              without a trial, make them serve as house-

                              The inventory book was introduced into each

                              Thus, those measures made the position of
                              Ukrainian peasants easier, but the practical
                              importance of the reforms appeared to be of
                              little importance, as the innovations stopped
                              in 1855.
            1850 H. Andruzky prepared the project ”The
                              Outlines of Constitution of the Republic”
                              which envisaged the formation of federation
                              of Slavic countries without Russia. He was
                              arrested and exiled to the prison of Solovetsky

            1853-1855 The Crimean War. The reasons lay in the fact
                              that Russia was trying to strengthen its
                              influence on the Balkans and destroy the
                              Ottoman Empire, seized the Bosphorus and
                              the Dardanelles. The Turkish sultan declared
                              war against Russia. Military operations took
                              place on the Black Sea, the Danube and the
                              Caucasus. In November 1853 Russian fleet
                              consisting of 8 vessels under the command of
                              vice-admiral P. Nakhimov forced their way to
