1124-1153 The rule of prince Volodymyr
Volodymyrovych.
1141 Volodymyrko transfers the capital into the
city of Halych because:
1) Halych was situated in the centre of the
princedom unlike Peremyshl’, Zvenygorod or
Terebovlya situated in the outlying districts
and thus making impossible the sudden
attacks of enemies without;
2) Halych was perfectly protected by nature:
river and mountains prevented from the
access and made it secure;
3) Halych was situated on the navigable river
Dniester that provided good communication,
access to the Black Sea, Byzantium, etc.;
4) Halych was the place of salt trade bringing
high profits, etc.
1153-1187 The rule of Yaroslav Osmomysl, the period,
when the princedom of Galicia reached its
development peak. His reign is described in
“The Tale of Ihor’s Campaign”: “…you,
Yaroslav, sit on the golden throne supporting
the mountains of Hungary by your iron
troops, having blocked the king’s way, having
closed the Danube’s gates…”. It testifies to
the fact that he conquered the lands up to the
mouth of the Danube river.
1170 The boyars of Halychyna burnt the
illegitimate wife of Yaroslav Osmomysl
Nastusya from the family of Chagrovs. By
this act the boyars expressed failure to obey
the prince’s will and presented the specific
