1187-1199 The rule of Yaroslav Osmomysl’s and Olga
Dolgorukaya’s son Volodymyr, who
according to the chronicle “liked to drink a lot
but did not hold councils with men”, that is he
neglected the boyar council. With his death in
1199 the dynasty of Rostyslavovychy ceased
to exist.
1199 After ten years of struggle for Halychyna
Volhynian prince Roman Mstyslavovych
seized Halych and united Halychyna and
Volhynia into a single state.
1199-1025 The rule of prince Roman Mstyslavovych,
who the chronicler called “autocrat”. He
eliminated the opposition of boyars and
considerably fortified the princely power. In
1203 he conquered Kyiv and became the most
powerful ruler of South-East Rus. His state
consisted of 12 princedoms (appanages). He
carried out successful campaigns against
Poland, Hungary, Lithuania and the
Polovtsians, strengthened international
prestige of Galicia-Volhynia. He was killed in
ambush during campaign in 1205.
1205-1238 The period of prince-boyar struggle for
power and foreign intervention.
1206-1211 After the death of prince Roman the powerful
state actually decayed. Three sons of
Novhorod-Siversky prince Igor and Yaroslav
Osmomysl’s daughter Yaroslavna ruled there.
