Volhynia. On their demand Danylo destroyed
the biggest fortresses of princedom having
been built by him;
1264 12) Danylo’s death in the city of Holm,
which he built in 1236 as the capital of
Zabuzhzhya, where he moved to at the end of
his life.
1264-1340 The rule of Danylo Halytskyi’s descendants.
1264-1301 The rule of Lev Danylovych. He managed to
expand the princedom borders considerably
by annexation of Lublin land (till 1302), the
part of Transcarpathia (Mukachiv, Berehovo),
etc. He established tight ties with Czech king
Vatslav – “was a great friend of his and held
peace till the end of life”.
1301-1308 The rule of Yuriy I L’vovych. After the death
of Danylo Halytskyi’s brother Vasylko’s
descendants, who ruled in Volhynia (the most
famous of them was Vasylko’s son
Volodymyr called by the chronicler “the great
scribe and philosopher unrivalled in the whole
land…”) he united Halychyna and Volhynia
again. He took the title of the king. There was
an inscription on his signet ring “the king of
Rus and the prince of Volodymyriya”. He
made Volodymyr Volynskyi the capital of the
state. He created a separate metropoly of
Halychyna in 1303. It existed till the year of
