December, 26 Presidential elections (the second round).
2004 The repeated voting. In all, 29 068 971 voters
participated in the elections. V. Yushchenko
won. He got votes of 15 115 712 electors or
51.9%. V. Yanukovych got votes of
12 848 528 electors (44.2%). V.
Yanukovych’s team appealed against the
election results to CEC and the Supreme
Court, but they were left without satisfaction.
January, 20 CEC officially promulgated the results of the
2005 repeated elections of December, 26, 2004. V.
Yushchenko was announced the new
President of Ukraine.
January, 23 Inauguration of V. Yushchenko. One of the
2005 first president’s decrees was to assign Y.
Tymoshenko the acting Prime Minister (BYT
leader). P. Poroshenko became the head of the
National Security. The President’s
Administration was cancelled, the President’s
Secretariat was established instead.
February, 4 Y. Tymoshenko was elected the Prime
2005 Minister of Ukraine. 375 people’s deputies
voted for her assignation. She became the 13-
th chairman of the government for the period
of independence of Ukraine. The Cabinet of
Ministers was formed. The program of the
new government “Towards people” was
approved.
