kurkul’ as a class” to make all other peasants
become members of collective farms. By
March, 1, 1930, 62.8% of peasant farms were
collectivized by force; about 90 thousand
farms were dispossessed (200 thousand
during collectivization years).
January The arrest of metropolitan Mykola Boretsky
1930 and other church figures. The dissolution of
UAOC and discontinuation of activities of
All-Ukrainian Orthodox Church Council were
announced.
March-April The inspired law proceeding of “Union of
1930 Liberation of Ukraine”(ULU) – a law
proceeding over 45 outstanding figures of
Ukrainian intelligentsia (S. Yefremov, V.
Chekhivsky, Y. Hermaise and others). They
were accused of having intentions to prepare
an armed uprising against the Soviet power,
Restore bourgeois and landlord order in
Ukraine. For ULU case nearly 5 thousand
people were repressed in the republic. In 1989
the plenum of the Supreme Court of the
USSR acknowledged the verdict on this case
to have been ungrounded; it was proved that
ULU had not even existed. It was made up by
punitive organs to deal with Ukrainian
intelligentsia.
Autumn The Polish government organized mass
1930 repressions against Ukrainian population of
Halychyna, the so-called “pacification” of
Western Ukrainian lands.
