August II Big Assembly of OUN in Rome. After Y.
1939 Konovalets had been assassinated by Soviet
special services in 1938, A Melnyk was
elected the head. On February, 10, 1940 in
Krakiv members of the radical group of OUN
did not recognize the resolutions of the
Assembly in Rome, and formed the
Revolutionary command of OUN with S.
Bandera as its head. Since that time the
division of OUN in OUN-B (under S.
Bandera’s leadership) and OUN-N (under A.
Melnyk’s leader ship) occurred.
August, 23 The non-aggression pact of the USSR and
1939 Germany, the so-called “Pact of Molotov and
Ribbentrop” Officially, it was an agreement
about non-aggression for 10 years, but
additionally it contained the secret protocol
about division of Europe in spheres of
influence: Germany agreed to annexation of
Western Ukraine, Western Bielorussia,
Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to the USSR.
Instead, it gained full freedom of action in
Europe.
