1919              Drohobych,  which  was  supported  by
                              peasants.  It  was  carried  on  under  Soviet
                              slogans  and  was  a  direct  challenge  to  the
                              government  of  WUPR.  Gendarmerie  and
                              army suppressed the uprising.
            April, 15         The  law  “About  elections  to  seym  of  the
            1919              western  region  of  UPR”  was  adopted.  It
                              provided for universal, secret, direct elections
                              by national curias of civilian persons over 28
                              years  of  age.  It  was  to  be  elected:  160
                              deputies,  33  –  of  the  Polish,  27  –  of  the
                              Jewish and 6 – of the German. The number of
                              elects was 226.
            April, 21         The  Entente  decided  to  send  Y.  Haller’  s
            1919              army  (nearly  80  thousand)  from  France  to
                              Halychyna. On April, 30 Y. Haller arrived in
                              Lviv.  A  large-scale  campaign  aiming  at  the
                              total  occupation  of  Halychyna  started.  UGA
                              retreated  to  the  south  of  Ternopil’  region
                              between  the  rivers  of  Dniester  and  Zbruch.
                              They had only one small piece of land under
                              their control.
            June, 7-28        The  Chortkiv  offensive  (breach).  .  25-
            1919              thousand  UGA  under  the  commandment  of
                              General    O.    Hrekov     by     a    swift
                              counteroffensive  made  100-thousand  Polish
                              army retreat. As a result of successful battles,
                              Ukrainian  troops  came  to  Lviv.  But  that
                              success  did  not  last  long  due  to  lack  of
                              reserves.  Polish  army  gained  help  (Y.
                              Pilsudsky  came  to  Halychyna)  and  stopped
                              the  offensive.  On  June,  28  the  Poles
