March, 9 On request of metropolitan A. Sheptytsky, all
1919 Roman-Catholic priests- internees were freed.
On March, 10 The Presidium of Ukrainian
National Council gave an amnesty to political
prisoners, convicted by November, 1.
Ukrainian authority tried to achieve civil
peace.
March, 21-23 The Congress of Secondary Schools’
1919 Teachers in Stanislaviv. It summarized the
educational reforms. The resolution said,
“The school must be national and must not
only prepare for university study, but also for
life and work. It must be free from all one-
sided impacts of the state, church, political
parties and social classes”.
March, 30-31 The Congress of Workers and Peasants in
1919 Stanislaviv. The main demand was to give
land to peasants.
April, 4 The currency was put into circulation –
1919 hryvnias (it was equal to 1 Austrian krone)
and Karbovanets (was equal to 2 krones).
With a new currency having been put into
circulation, (mainly, 500 and 1000 hryvnias
banknotes), the problem of shortage of small
change arose. It forced some district
authorities, Ternopil’, Zbarazh, Brody, in
particular, to start printing of town bonds of 1,
2, 5 and 10 hryvnias on regular or even
wrapping paper. In the course of monetary
