                            9.1 Ways of translating terms
9.2 Translation of terms created with the help of prefixes
9.3 Translation of terms created with the help of suffixes
                            9.4 Translation of complex terms
                            9.5 Translation of metaphoric terms

                                    Key terms:

                            9.1 Ways of translating terms
When translating scientific texts the emphasis should be
paid to the translation of terms that may be the main challenge for
interpreters. The translation of terms requires
                            1) the special knowledge of that professional field to which the
                            translation is concerning;
                            2) the understanding of the meaning of terms in a foreign language
                            3) knowledge of professional terminology in the native language.
When translating scientific and technical texts the translator
should pay special attention to the context in which the term is
used, this context can held to determine the meaning of the term.
                                    A. Kovalenko identifies two stages in the process of term
translation: the first one is to clarify the meaning of the term in the
context; secondly, we should find the adequate equivalent in the
                            target language.
From the point of view of practical translation all the terms
of the source language can be divided into two groups:
                                    1) those that already have equivalents in the target
                            language (eg: equipment-устаткування),
                                    2) those that do not have equivalents in the target language
(eg: flaming in the Internet terminology).
According to V.I. Karaban terms that have equivalents are
subdivided into the terms with one equivalent (Eg: flange -
