November, 21      The  Presidium  of  the  Supreme  Council  of
            1949              Ukrainian    Soviet   Socialist   Revolution
                              approved  attributes of statehood: a flag (re-
                              and-blue  with  a  picture  of  a  sickle  and  a
                              hammer),  the  National  Emblem  and  the
                              National  Anthem  symbolizing  Ukraine  as  a
                              constituent part of the USSR.
            December          M.  Khrushchyov,  who  had  headed  the
            1949              Communist  Party  of  Bolsheviks  since  1947,
                              was  substituted  by  L.  Melnykov.  He
                              continued  struggle with Ukrainians,  ignoring
                              national traditions of Ukrainians, their history
                              and culture.
            1946 –1949        “Zhdanov’s      ideology”    in     Ukraine.
                              Strengthening of ideological control of power
                              over   society.   Persecution   of   famous
                              representatives   of    Ukrainian    culture,
                              education  and  science  (Y.  Yanovsky,  M.
                              Rylsky,  V.  Sosyura,  A.  Malyshko.  M.
                              Petrovsky, O. Dovzhenko and others) started.
                              In  all,  12  party  resolutions  about  so-called
                              errors and disfiguration in ideological sphere,
                              where  3  theses  prevailed:  1)  critic  of
                              manifestations  of  “Ukrainian  bourgeois
                              nationalism”;  2)  insufficient  covering  of
                              “problems of Soviet reality, socialist realism”
                              in  belles-lettres;  3)  calls  for  developing  of
                              “Bolshevist critic, identification of enemies of
                              the people, strengthening of class struggle”.
            March, 5          The  death  of  Chief  Commander  of  UIA
            1950              Roman Shukhevych in the battle with units of
                              Ministry of Internal Affairs near Lviv.
            November, 7       The first television centre started its work in
