striving of Ukrainian people to get united
with Russian people; the existence of
Cossack-Hetman Ukrainian state was not
even recognized; finally, national liberation
struggle of Ukrainian people during 1917-
1920 was regarded as “counterrevolution”; M.
Hrushevsky, V. Vynnychenko and S. Petliura,
the prominent statesmen, were presented as
“agents of foreign imperialism”. Such
estimates determined the character of research
study in history of Ukraine for a few next
decades. The least deviation from the official
version was punished by many ways.
February, 19 The decree of the Presidium of the Supreme
1954 Council of USSR about transfer of the
Crimean oblast from the composition of
RRFSU to the structure of Ukrainian Soviet
Socialist Republic. It was done considering
community of economy, territorial proximity
and tight economic and cultural ties of the
Crimea and Ukraine. For that moment (census
as of 1959), 1.2 mln. people lived on the
territory of the Crimea (22.3% - Ukrainians,
71.4% - Russians).
March, 22 – 26 At XVIII congress of CPU the resolution
1954 was approved about recruitment of young
boys and girls from Ukraine for ploughing
up new soils in Kazakhstan and Siberia. In
1956 more than 75 thousand of Ukrainian
youth worked there. That programme
implementation took resources out of Ukraine
and considerably weakened republican
