1943 – April, troops to liberate Right Bank Ukraine. As a
17 result of victorious Zhytomyr-Berdychiv,
1944 Korsun’-Shevchenko, Lutsk-Rivne,
Proskuriv-Chernivtsi, Odesa and other
military operations, a German group of armies
“South” was defeated, Right Bank Ukraine, a
part of Southern and Western Ukraine were
liberated.
March, 25 Soviet troops approached the border with
1944 Romania.
April, 8–May, The Crimean offensive campaign. It resulted
12 in liberation of the Crimea; Hitler lost more
1944 than 100 thousand soldiers and officers. On
May, 9, 1944 the city of Sevastopil’ was
liberated.
May, 11 The resolution of the State Committee of
1944 Defence about deportation of Crimean
Tatars from the Crimea to Uzbek SSR. The
resolution was motivated by Tatars’ treason
and their cooperation with Germans.
Violating the principle of personal
responsibility, the whole nation was punished.
Later additional resolutions were approved
concerning deportation of Crimean
Bulgarians, Greeks and Armenians. In all, 225
thousand people were deported.
July, 13– Lviv-Sandomyr offensive campaign. In its
August, 29 course a group of armies “Northern Ukraine”
1944 was defeated. On July, 27 Stanislaviv (Ivano-
Frankivsk at present) and Lviv were
liberated. On July, 18-22 Soviet army
defeated division SS “Halychyna” under
Brody. About 3 thousand of its soldiers joined
