Greek-catholic Church was liquidated in
Transcarpathia in 1949.
March The Supreme Council approved the fourth
1946 five-year plan of reconstruction and
development of national economy for 1946-
1950.
November The approval of new Ukrainian
1946 orthography, which was close to Russian.
1946 –1947 The famine in Ukraine. Reasons: destruction
of agriculture after war; drought: in 16 oblasts
of Ukraine spring and summer with no rain
come after winter with little snow; the crop
capacity made 2-3 centners of grain per 1
hectare; overrated norms of state grain
purchases. The consequences were
catastrophic: nearly 1 mln. people starved to
death.
February, 10 The signing of Soviet-Romanian treaty, by

was recorded legally. The borders were
marked in June, 1940.
March, 4 The plenum of CC CP(b)U by Stalin’s order
1947 displaced M. Khrushchyov from the position
of the First Secretary of CC CP(b)U and
assigned L. Kaganovych, who had occupied
the position by December, 1947 and carried
out the course of strengthening struggle with
“Ukrainian bourgeois nationalism”.
April, 28 – July “The Vistula” operation. It was a forcible
