December, 18 The beginning of liberation of Ukraine. As a
1942 result of Stalingrad offensive operation,
Soviet forces liberated the first village in
Ukraine – Pivdivka village, Bilovsk district,
Luhansk oblast.
April The formation of division SS “Halychyna”
1943 with Ukrainians of general-governorship.
There were 60 thousand volunteers.
June-October S. Kovpak’s partisan formation raid from
1943 Putivlia to the Carpathians. The goal was to
organize partisan struggle in the regions with
weak Soviet partisan movement, destroy
railway communications and ruin oilfields.
July, 5 – The battle of Kursk. Trying to revenge for the
August, 23 defeat under Stalingrad and seize strategic
1943 initiative, Wehrmacht began a massive
offensive near Kursk. On July 12, one of the
biggest tank battles took place in Prokhorivka.
More than 1200 tank were used
simultaneously on both parts. As a result of
murderous battles, Soviet troops managed to
stop the attack of Hitler army and inflict a
counterattack. The victory of Kursk
consolidated the turning point of the Great
Patriotic War and created conditions for
liberation of Ukraine.
August- The liberation of Left Bank Ukraine and
September Donbas. Soviet troops approached the line of
1943 the Dnipro river on wide, 250 km front.
