Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv oblasts, Donbas
and the Crimea, as those near the front line,
were directly subordinate to military
command. Ukrainian Transcarpathia was
occupied by fascist Hungary, an ally of
Germany; Bukovyna and Southern Ukraine
between the rivers of Dniester and South Bug
with the centre in Odesa were included in
Romania under the name of “Transnistriya”.
September, 29- The beginning of mass shooting in Kyiv, in
30 Babyn Yar. Peace population of different
1941 nationalities including 33 thousand Jews were
shot. 180 concentration camps and 50 ghetto
were established in Ukraine. In all, 3.9 mln.
civil population were killed and tortured,
more than 1.3 mln. were taken prisoners.
October, 30 The defence of Sevastopil’. As a result of
1941 - July, 4 attack of Hitler forces at the Crimes, Red
1942 Army had to leave the Crimean peninsula.
Sevastopil’ was the only city under its
control. The heroic defence of Sevastopil’
lasted for 250 days. During that time many
soldiers and enemy military equipment were
destroyed.
February, 13 The beginning of forcible evacuation of
1942 Ukrainian population to works in Germany.
For the years of occupation, 2.3 mln. people
were taken out of Ukraine.
May, 12 After defeat of German troops under Moscow,
1942 Soviet forces carried on a poorly prepared
offensive near Kharkiv. Losses of Red Army
made 240 thousand men. After that
