1941 troops near Kyiv. But in the end of August,
tank fascist armies forced a crossing over the
Dnipro and surrounded the forces of South-
West front. Y. Stalin banned to leave Kyiv by
no means and take troops over the Dnipro
river. It caused the tragedy of encirclement.
Only on September, 17 the headquarters
agreed to retreat, but it was too late. Many

                              encirclement. General Kyrponos, a

1941 time forces of Maritime army (commander
                              general I. Petrov) stemmed considerable
enemy forces (28 divisions). Only after
arriving of new German divisions, Soviet
troops left Odesa and retreated to the Crimea.

                              Bank Ukraine, Poltava and Zaporizhzhia)
with the centre in Rivne. Eric Koch headed it.
Fascists eliminated the smallest signs of
statehood its territorial integrity and divided
Ukraine in several separate parts with a strict
                              occupation regime. Thus, Lviv, Stanislaviv,
                              Ternopil’ and Drohobych oblasts were
grouped in “Halychyna district”. It was
