1940 about 105 of the region was deported;
7) repressions against Greek-Catholic Church,
etc.
June, 28 - 30 The USSR and USSR (Ukrainian Soviet
1940 Socialist Republic) annexed Bessarabia and
Northern Bukovyna. The USSR sent the
ultimatum to the Romanian government to
free the territory of Bessarabia and Northern
Bukovyna during 4 days. By June, 30 Red
Army occupied those territories and
established the new border with Romania.
August, 2 VII session of the Supreme Council of the
1940 USSR adopted the law about inclusion in the
structure of USSR (the USSR) the territories
of Northern Bukovyna, Khotyn’, Akerman
and Izmayil districts (povity) of Bessarabia,
populated mostly by Ukrainians. Chernivtsi
oblast appeared as a new part of Ukraine. The
population of Ukraine grew to 41.7 mln.
