Pilsudsky had to acknowledge it too. He
arrived in Kyiv on May, 15 and declared,
“We knocked with a fist on air, covered a
long distance, but failed to destroy the
manpower of the enemy”.
May, 26 The change of UPR government, V.
1920 Prokopovych became the head of the
Council of People’s Ministers.
June, 12 Red Army occupied Kyiv. The leaders of UPR
1920 left Kyiv, this time – forever. In the end of
July Soviet troops entered the territory of
Poland. On August, 14, Polish army carried
on a counterattack and threw back Red Army
over the Bug river. On October, 12, a truce
was concluded between Poland and Soviet
Russia. The remnants of UPR army continued
the fight with Bolsheviks on their own.
November, 21 The remains of UPR army crossed the
1920 Zbruch river and went for exile in Poland. On
the whole territory of Ukraine Soviet power
was not opposed by regular military units. A.
Livytsky headed the government in exile.
After S. Petliura’s assassination in 1926, A.
Livytsky headed the State Centre of UPR in
emigration.
December, 26 RSFSR and USSR concluded a treaty. The
1920 treaty consolidated direct subordination of the
key spheres of Ukrainian activities to Soviet
Russia. People’s Committees of military and
nautics, finance, labour, foreign trade,
communications, post and telegraphs,
Supreme councils of economy were united.
