September, 24 Directory proclaimed the declaration, where it
1919 announced about the beginning of war with
A. Denikin. It said, "The A. Denikin’s army
returns landowners the land, obtained by the
blood of peasants and takes away workers’
civil rights. Denikin does not let Ukrainian
people learn and use the native language, the
Ukrainian language is swept away from state
institutions, Ukrainian books are burnt… He
pursues Ukrainian men…”. Directory called
for: “All, having strength and love of
freedom, all, preserving strivings for land and
freedom, all, treasuring democratic Unified
Assembly Ukrainian Republic, rise to the last
crucial battle with our enemy”.
November, Ukrainian army got in the so-called
1919 “quadrangle of death” (Bolsheviks – Denikin
– Poland – Romania). The typhus epidemic
killed many people of Ukrainian army.
According to certain data, the epidemic ruined
? of Ukrainian army. About 10 thousand
soldiers died in November.
November, 6 General M. Tarnavsky, the UGA commander,
1919 signed separate treaty with White Guard
Commandment, and joined A. Denikin’s
army. The treason led to catastrophic
consequences and resulted in the total crush
of Ukrainian front. The remnants of UPR
army withdrew to the area of Lyubar being
attacked by more than 25 thousand of A.
