Soviet power and passed to peasants without
repurchase.
April, 21 The Warsaw treaty of the Polish government
1920 and UPR government (The treaty of Y.
Pilsudsky and S. Petliura). The treaty
included three conventions:
1) political (April, 21);
2) trading-economic (April, 21);
3) military (April, 24);
It was a secret treaty and was not ratified for
this reason. Its full text became known only in
1926. Poland recognized Directory as the
government of UPR with S. Petliura as its
head. S. Petliura recognized the rights of
Poland to have the territory to the west from
the Zbruch river. Common military actions
against Soviet Russia were planned. For its
independence Ukraine had to pay in a form of
large territorial cessions to Poland. Thus, this
treaty actually ruined conjunction of western
and eastern Ukrainian lands and caused
extremely negative reaction in Ukraine. In
particular, M. Hrushevsky and V.
Vynnychenko expressed their ardent protest.
April, 25 The beginning of Polish-Soviet war.. The
1920 dashing attack of Polish-Ukrainian army
liberated Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Kyiv (May, 7).
Directory moved to Kyiv. On May, 9 Polish-
Ukrainian army crossed the Dnipro, but Red
Army stopped their further advancement.
Despite the capital occupation, the war
