                              liberated the  Left  Bank  Ukraine  from  White
                              Guard  (they  entered  Kharkiv  on  December,
                              12).  By  the  end  of  the  year,  they  occupied
                              Donbas;  Kyiv  was  occupied  on  December,
                              16.  Thus,  A.  Denikin’s  army  was  defeated;
                              the Communist Soviet power was restored in
                              Ukraine, except for the Crimea.
            November,  15   The  Directory  decree:  “as  the  Directory
            1919              members  A.  Makarenko  and  F.  Shvets  left
                              abroad,  the  supreme  power  of  the  Republic
                              affairs  is passed to otaman Symon Petliura”.
                              Thus, all power was given to S. Petliura.
            November,  16   Ukrainian  authority  left  its  last  capital  of
            1919              Kamyanets-Podilsky, which was occupied by
                              Polish army.
            December, 1-2    The mutiny of otamans Danchenko, Bozhko
            1919              and  Volokh  in  Lyubar.  They  declared  S.
                              Petliura  that  they  should  choose  one  enemy
                              out of three (Bolsheviks, Denikin’s troops and
                              Poles) to conclude peace. It was impossible to
                              fight  with  all  of  them  simultaneously.  They
                              demanded  that  the  head  of  Directory  passed
                              the  authority  to  their  hands.  Saving
                              themselves from being arrested, they took the
                              national   military   treasury   and   joined
                              Bolsheviks. S. Petliura was deeply concerned
                              with events under Lyubar: “Isn’t it the tragedy
                              of  Ukraine  that  some  die  from  starvation
                              during  cold  winter  under  Lyubar,  when  the
                              other rob the dead and escape with the black
                              conscience  of  our  history,  Volokh,  to  the
                              enemy,  filling  the  lines  of  Ukraine'  s
