                              advantages to Ukrainians.
            April, 13         The  formation  of  “Central  Council  of  the
            1848              People”  (CCP)  in  Lviv.  It  was  an
                              organization of Polish  nobility with the goal
                              to turn Halychyna into a Polish province.
            April, 22         The  Emperor’s  decree  about  serfdom
            1848              abolition  in  Halychyna  (since  May,  15).  It
                              took  place  5  months  earlier  than  in  other
                              provinces.   Landlords    obtained    certain
                              financial  recompense  from  the  state  and
                              exemption from some taxes. It was approved
                              that a peasant had to pay 2/3 of the sum. On
                              August,  9,  1848  the  Austrian  government
                              abolished   serfdom    in   Bukovyna.     By
                              resolution of the Hungarian seim serfdom  in
                              Transcarpathia was abolished on March, 27,
                              1848.
            May, 2            The  foundation  of  “Supreme  Ruthenian
            1848              Council” (SRC) in Lviv – the first Ukrainian
                              political organization, which became the main
                              representative  of  Ukrainians  in  the  central
                              government.  It  was  headed  by  bishop  H.
                              Yakhymovych  and  later  by  clergyman  M.
                              Kuzemsky.  The  program  issues  included:
                              abolition  of  social  inequality,  granting
                              Ukrainians  permission  to  have  access  to  all
                              state  establishments,  teaching  in  the  native
                              language in all educational institutions, equal
                              rights  of  all  religions,  the  division  of
                              Halychyna into 2 administrative units: Eastern
                              (Ukrainian)  and  Western  (Polish)  with
