of Ukrainian national movement during the

19 and the beginning of the 20 century was
the cause of Halychyna division in Polish
and Ukrainian parts with separate
government.
1772-1790 The reforms of the so-called “enlightened
absolutism” of empress Maria Theresa (1772-
1780) and emperor Joseph II (1780-1790).
1. Agrarian:
- ‘Inventories” were recorded and made up
with data about amount of lands owned by
landlords, peasant duties were recorded, it
was banned to enlarge land property at the
cost of peasants’ plots of land;
- it was banned to force peasants to perform
compulsory service for a landlord on Sunday
and religious holidays;
- personal peasant dependence on his landlord
was abolished (1782), the peasant stopped to
be a serf deprived of all rights, but was
protected by the state law. His serfdom was
expressed in a certain number of days of free
compulsory service for a landlord;
- peasants were given minimal civic rights:
they could marry without a landlord’s
consent, they could complain of a landlord’s
violence to the court, a landlord’s right to
judge his peasants was liquidated; since then
only state court dealt with that;
- the compulsory service fro a landlord was
limited to three days a week (1786).
