IV Translation of three-componental asyndetic noun clusters.
The three-componental clusters split into two main subgroups:
1. The first subgroup constitute the NN+N type clusters, which have two initial
nouns forming a close sense unit having the function of an adjunct to the final head
noun.
e.g. home market prices – ціни внутрішнього ринку.
2. The second subgroup make up the N+NN type clusters, in which the final two
nouns form the head component to the initial adjunct noun.
e.g. Kyiv football club – Київський футбольний клуб.
The meaning of the three-componental asyndetic noun clusters can be rendered into
Ukrainian by employing quite many approaches among which there are a few most
important:
1. Starting with the nucleus:
e.g. England team manager – керівник англійської команди.
This way of translating may also be called a 3-1-2 components approach, where we
started with the head noun and proceeded to the second noun.
2. Starting with the adjunct, whose initial noun turns in Ukrainian into an
adjective.
e.g. Trade Union funds – профспілкові фонди.
3. In a descriptive way, when some components are nationally specific
words or are structurally complicated.
e.g. bread-line old age pensions – пенсії людям похилого віку,
яких вистачає тільки на хліб
4. Consecutive (following in order(1-2-3)):
e.g. the World Trade Organization – Всесвітня торгова
організація.
