exchange, but also an acquaintance with a certain culture and values. Once in
another language environment, a person actually finds oneself in another world of
laws of communication, subordinated to the mentality of a certain ethnic group, or
even a nation. This should be remembered by all those who communicate with
bearers of other cultures.
Awareness of the importance of cultural and historical factors in the
communication process resulted in intensive exploration of intercultural
communication in the 1980s of the twentieth century. After thorough analysis of
theoretical arguments, it should be noted that intercultural communication is a
process that gives some idea of the culture of people, their values and traditions.
Multiculturalism was researched in the works of foreign scholars D. Banks,
G. Dmitriev, D. Dewey, W. Mathis, J. Mitter, S. Naushabayeva, S. Niyeto,
V. Podobed T. Ryulker, M. Walzer, M. Hint, etc.
The concept of "multiculturalism" began to gain an independent value in the
western thought in early 1970s and was used mainly in the educational sphere. It
was brought into realization in two directions: through the creation of education for
minorities in order to ensure equal conditions for the existence of their cultures and
the introduction of such a system of education, in which a priority focus would be
to promote mutual respect and tolerance among representatives of different
religious, cultural and linguistic groups.
In the educational area of Ukraine, this term has entered the scientific
vocabulary relatively recently. The main characteristic of multiculturalism, as an
ideology, is the co-existence of a large number of cultures, none of which is either
dominant or depressed.
Modern science views culture as a world in which man finds oneself, and
humanity as a unit consisting of equivalent cultural communities that must build
relationships in the form of a dialogue of cultures. Thus, multiculutralism
parameters are: the ability to use language as a means of communication at the
intercultural level, the dialogue of cultures in oral and written forms; respectful,
responsible attitude towards their own culture and cultures of other peoples; the
recognition of the right of other cultures to exist and develop.
Communication between peoples of different nationalities requires a
multicultural personality that is an ability to understand and interact, tolerate the
attitude to other cultures, and perceive their views and beliefs. A multicultural
personality is a person who possesses skills and abilities of successful interaction
with representatives of another culture, comprehension of the pictures of the world
of another socioculture, readiness to resolve conflicts that arise in the process of
communication, a positive attitude to the language of study and its carriers. These
