Stage 1. This stage can be called a theoretical one. Its aim is to inform the theoretical knowledge about
the simultaneous interpreting. It is the shortest stage and can include one or two theoretical lectures and a
seminar. In the first lecture it would be reasonable to talk about modern scientific views of the process of
simultaneous interpreting as a linguistic and psychological process. The second lecture can highlight the goals of
the course of teaching and methods of organising of the teaching process. During the seminar the students should
consolidate the theoretical knowledge about the simultaneous interpreting and get interested in reaching the
goals. The teaching materials of the theoretical stage are the theoretical chapter of this book, materials of the
teacher’s lecture, scientific-methodological books and articles on the simultaneous interpreting.

Stage 2. The second stage is called preparatory stage. Its aim is to develop the qualities necessary for
gaining skills of the simultaneous interpreting, to change speech and interpreting skills and to form the initial
skills of interpreting. The process of teaching on this stage is in the form of the group trainings in the
simultaneous interpreting class and individual work there. The teaching materials of this stage are the
preparatory exercises and records of the speeches and simultaneous interpreters.

Stage 3. This stage is called the stage of the automatism of the simultaneous interpreting skills. The aim
of this stage is to form the professional skills of simultaneous interpreting based on the limited number of topics.
The process of teaching on this stage is also in the form of the group trainings in the simultaneous interpreting
class and individual work there. The exercises are directed to master the simultaneous interpreting in various
variants and conditions of interpreting. The materials are the texts of the exercises of the corresponding chapter
of this book, texts of speeches for the written translation and then simultaneous reading of the translation, texts
for the sight interpreting with the preparation beforehand and without it, texts for the simultaneous interpreting
      without any notes.

Stage 4. This stage is the practice of simultaneous interpreting. Its aim is to acquaint the students with the
conditions of the practical work of the simultaneous interpreters and give them an opportunity to gain the
experience of the professional simultaneous interpreting in the artificial situation (to reach this goal the
conditions of the professional interpreters work on the international conference are imitated).
