never see. The setting, action, emotions, gestures, etc, that our students can observe in a video clip, provide an
important visual stimulus for language production and practice.

For English language learners, video has the added benefit of providing real language and cultural
information. Video can be controlled (stopped, paused, repeated), and it can be presented to a group of students,
to individuals, or for self-study. It allows learners to see facial expressions and body language at the same time
as they hear the stress, intonation, and rhythm of the language.

Videos present real language that is not simplified and is spoken at a normal speed with genuine accents.
These videos include movies, television programs, and news broadcasts. Additionally, using authentic videos at

the class can provide opportunities for learners to evaluate a medium that they use in their daily life. Video is
one of the most effective tools in teaching translation/interpreting. I would also like to draw your attention to
the fact that video classes are not limited just to listening. Of course, listening, interpreting and translating are
the key procedures during the video class, but the suggested work with the scripts presupposes other activities,
such as reading, writing, retelling, speaking on the topic, which are important for improving the students’
knowledge of the language and their speech skills.

             Practical task

Lesson 16. Governor Huntsman Energy Speech. Part 1

             1. Do exercises 1, 2 from Lesson 16. Practise interpreting the speech by paragraphs from English
into Ukrainian and vice versa consecutively.
             2. Learn active vocabulary for the dictation.
             3. Learn the suggested abstract by heart.

It’s an honor to be back at the University of New Hampshire; a university that has distinguished itself as a
leader in academics, research and innovation. A few minutes ago I visited your cogeneration plant, which has
earned national accolades. Using processed landfill gas, it serves as this campus's primary energy source –
powering your gymnasium, your dorm rooms and to the dislike of some, your lecture halls. By taking more
control of its energy supply, the university benefits from a stable energy source and predictable energy prices.
So, the need to make our nation itself energy secure is what I’d like to address today. We are all too familiar with
      the statistics.

             Theoretical task

Read the theoretical abstract and be able to discuss it during the exam.

Short-Term and Long-Term Memory in interpreting
Before introducing the activities for video class I would like to concentrate on one more topical issue in
the sphere of translating/interpreting, that is, the matter of memory.

Psychological studies of human memory make a distinction between Short-Term Memory (STM) and
Long-Term Memory (LTM). The idea of short-term memory simply means that you are retaining information
