іригація – обводнювання, експансія – поширення, корозія –
ржавіння, роз’їдання, індикація – показ, інклінація – нахил,
реконструкція – перебудова, дисперсія – розріда. Replacing
borrowings with genuine forms of a language is indicative of the
vitality of a language, of the attitudes its speakers have with
respect to language survival, and the hierarchical relationship that
exists among languages, which all express political, economic, and
social relations.
Many linguists try to make universal classification of terms.
There are two attempts to do it. Let’s conider the classification of
Ukrainian linguists T. R. Kyiak, A.S.Diakov. All the terms can be:
1. Terms are root words:
1.1. Original English words: nose
1.2. borrowed root terms: atom
2. Derived terms
2.1. terms formed with the help of suffixes: exploision
2.2. terms formed with the help of prefixes: unemployment
3. Compound terms: turbogenerator
4. Complex terms: direct current
5. terms-abbreviations:
6. Conventional sign in letters; g – gramm
7. Sign (mathematical, chemical, astronomic): +, $,
8. Nomenclature signs: Nokia 3000, pragma 8
4.3 Other Professional Unit that Function in the
Professional Discourse.
Professionalisms are words or expressions peculiar to the
language of a certain professional groups. They are notable for
local dialects and they have some emotional meaning. Significant
difference between the terms and professionalisms is that the term
is an official scientific name of the concept whereas a
professionalism occurs as colloquial informal substitution of the
