The third division of Polish-Lithuanian
Commonwealth. Russia got western Volyn’
and eastern Chelm lands. Polish-Lithuanian
Commonwealth stopped its existence as an
independent state.
PART І. Under the rule of the Russian empire.
1787-1791 The Russo-Turkish war that ended in the
victory of Russia and signing of the Treaty of
Yassy in 1791, according to which:
1) Russia got the territory between the South
Buh and the Dniester including the town of
Ochakiv;
2) Turkey recognized annexation of the
Crimea by Russia. As a result of victorious
wars of Russia, the colonization of southern
Ukraine lands and the Crimea started.
1791 The secret mission of Ukrainian noble
Vasyl’ Kapnist to Berlin (to meet a king of
Prussia Frederick ІІ) to present a plan of
annexation of Ukraine by Prussia. The
mission had no results.
1703-1707 The expansion of all-Russian administrative
rule on the territory of Ukraine. Ukraine was
divided into 3 governor-general regions:
1. Little Russia governorate. It included 3
provinces: Chernihiv, Sloboda-Ukrainian
(later it was re-named into Kharkiv).
2. Kyiv governorate. It included 3 provinces:
Kyiv, Podillya and Volyn’.
3. Novorossiysk governorate. It included 3
