Russia and the treaty of Nystad, according to
which, Russia got the coast of the Baltic Sea
from Vyborg to Ryha.
1701 I. Mazepa’s decree about establishment of
two-day serfdom in left-bank Ukraine.
1702-1704 Cossack-and-peasant uprising in right-bank
Ukraine against the yoke of Polish szlachta
headed by the colonel from Fastiv. Cossacks
opposed the resolution of the Polish seim
(1699) of abolition of Cossacks in right-bank
Ukraine. The rebels liberated and took under
control a large part of Kyiv region and
Podillya. They turned to Russia for support.
In 1704 left-bank regiments of I. Mazepa
advanced to right-bank Ukraine by order of
Peter I. They were to help Polish king August
II to put everything to order. Mazepa arrested
Paliy, put down the uprising and occupied
right-bank Ukraine.
September The treaty of Altranstadt between king
1706 August II and Sweden king Carl XII,
according to which, August II abdicated the
throne to S. Leschynsky, the henchman of
Sweden. The Polish-Russian alliance was
broken off.

entering into an anti-Russian coalition.
July The execution of general judge V. Kochubey
1708 and colonel I. Iskra by hetman I. Mazepa.
They sent denunciation to Peter I about
hetman’s intentions to betray the tsar.
