1669 P. Doroshenko’s acceptance of Turkey’s
protectorate. Having found himself encircled
by enemies (Polish-Lithuanian
Commonwealth, Russia) and with appearance
of new candidates to hetmanate (P. Suhoviy,
M. Khanenko), P. Doroshenko concluded an
alliance with Turkey.
June Turkish-Tatar army of many thousands
1672 headed by the sultan Mohammed and 12-
thousand detachment of Doroshenko took
Kamyanets-Podilskiy fortress and advanced
to Halychyna. Polish army was defeated
under the town of Buchach. In October 1672
Buchach peace was concluded.. It was utterly
disadvantageous to Poland. It was laid under a
large contribution to Turkey (80 thousand
thalers) and was obliged to pay 22 thousand
zloty of the so-called "upymynky" (tribute).
Podillya went from Poland to Turkey; nearly
unpopulated regions of Bratslav and southern
regions of Kyiv went under P. Doroshenko’s
authority, who became the vassal of Turkish
sultan.
1672-1687 The rule of hetman Ivan Samoilovych.
Instead of exiled D. Mnohohrishny the
council of starshynas in Kozacha Dibrova
elected I. Samoilovych in June 1672. He
concluded Konotop articles with Moscow.
According to their terms, the Cossack
starshyna obtained a greater influence on
hetman, but the autonomy of Ukraine
weakened. The hetman did not have the right
to punish and deprive of posts without
