He staked on poor strata of the population
                              having given them many demagogic
promises, which he was not going to keep. He
                              provoked disorder and slaughter, destroyed
other claimants to the mace of Y. Somko and
                              I. Zolotarenko. In October 1665
                              Bryuhovetsky signed Moscow articles (he
was the first hetman, who came in Moscow
on a visit). They restricted the rights of
                              Hetmanate considerably, fortified its military-
                              administrative dependence on Russia. All
Ukrainian towns and lands were passed under
the tsar’s authority. Garnisons headed by
voivodes were located in ten towns of left-
bank Ukraine. Hetman was deprived the right
to conduct foreign policy by himself, his
election rights were restricted too. Finally
Moscow got the right to collect taxes from
                              Ukrainian population (except for Cossacks)
                              for the tsar treasury.
Feeling general discontent with actions of
Moscow (copyists came to Ukraine to define
taxation size, etc.), Vyhosky was trying to
head the uprising against Russia. In June
                              1668 right-bank hetman P. Doroshenko’s
regiments set out against Bryuhovetsky and
                              killed him by mob law.

authority. He was called "The Sun of the
