                              Mnohohrishnyi was against joining right-bank
                              Ukraine  to  Poland,  fought  for  expansion  of
                              autonomous  rights  of  Ukraine.  It  caused
                              concern  of  the  tsar  government.  He  was
                              charged  of  treason  to  Russia,  arrested  and
                              exiled  to  Siberia  (he  was  the  first  Ukrainian
                              hetman exiled by Russia).
            1669– 1672        D. Mnohohrishnyi’s hetmanate in left-bank
                              Ukraine.  In  March  1668  he  was  elected
                              hetman  at  Gluhiv  council,  having  signed
                              Gluhiv  articles  with  Moscow.  According  to
                              their terms, Moscow made some concessions
                              to calm Ukraine; Russian garnisons were left
                              in 5 towns only, voivodes were forbidden to
                              interfere in internal affairs of local Ukrainian
                              authorities,   taxes   were   collected   by
                              administration,   the    Cossack     register

            1669, 1674        The part of Ukrainian Cossacks at the council
                              in Uman’ elected  Mykhailo Khanenko,  who
                              accepted  the  protectorate of  the  Polish  king.
                              He  constantly  fought    with  P.  Doroshenko,
                              but  after  defeat  under  Kyiv  in  1674,  he
                              abdicated  his  responsibilities  and  swore
                              allegiance to Moscow.
