Russia for 13,5 years. Ukraine was divided in
half: left-bank Ukraine and Kyiv went to
Russia, right-bank Ukraine went to Poland.
Zaporizhzhya was subjected to the authority
of the tsar and king both “obeying and being
protected by arms of both grand states”.
June Declaration P. Doroshenko hetman of both
1668 banks of the Dnieper river. After I.
                              Bryuhovetsky’s murder, Doroshenko unified
both parts of Ukraine under one authority, but
he had to return to right-bank Ukraine
because of Polish army attack. He left
Demyan Mnohohrishnyi as an acting hetman
of left-bank Ukraine. In September Russian
army advanced to left-bank Ukraine and
several colonels accepted the protectorate of
                              Russia.
August The part of Zaporozhian Cossacks declared
1668 Petro Suhoviy hetman, who accepted the
                              protectorate of the Crimean Khanate.
Together with Tatars he invaded left-bank
Ukraine, but after defeat he abdicated hetman
responsibilities in the beginning of 1669.

Ukraine. In March 1668 he was elected
hetman at Gluhiv council, having signed
Gluhiv articles with Moscow. According to
their terms, Moscow made some concessions
to calm Ukraine; Russian garnisons were left
in 5 towns only, voivodes were forbidden to
interfere in internal affairs of local Ukrainian
