B. Khmelnytsky at the council of starshynas.
                              After  his  death  (27.07.  1657)  Chyhyryn
                              council  resolved  that  Yuriy  continued  his
                              study  in  collegium  and  Ivan  Vyhovsky,  a
                              general scribe, was asked to perform hetman
                              duties.
            1657 – 1659       Ivan Vyhovsky’s hetman  rule.
            October           At hetman council in Korsun I. Vyhovsky was
            1657              elected hetman. He На гетьманській раді в

                              гетьманом.  He  pursued  an  active  foreign
                              policy,  kept  up  relations  with  Moscow,
                              resumed  the  alliance  with  the  Crimea,
                              concluded  a  defence  alliance  with  Sweden,
                              etc.
            June              The  armed  rebellion  against  I.  Vyhovsky
            1658              headed by Martyn Pushkar (Poltava colonel)
                              and  Yakiv  Barabash  (kosh  otaman).  It  was
                              caused  by  discontent  of  Cossacks  and
                              peasants.  Vyhovsky’s  home  policy  as  for
                              Cossack  starshyna  and  szlachta.  Moscow
                              stirred  up  the  leaders’  ambitions.  With
                              support of Tatars, the rebellion was put down,
                              but it caused losses of 50 thousand people on
                              both  sides.  This  struggle  became  the  first
                              chord  of  civil  war  that  became  one  of  the
                              main reasons  for the period of ruin.
            September         I. Vyhovsky’s treaty of Hadiach with Poland.
            1658              According to its terms:
                              1)  in  Polish-Lithuanian  Commonwealth  the
                              third  constituent of  federation  was  formed  –
                              Grand  Duchy  of  Rus  (including  Kyiv,
                              Chernihiv and Bratslav voivodeships);
