By single-seat voting districts 219 people
became the parliament members.
The factional size of the Supreme Council
was as follows: “For unitary Ukraine” – 175
deputies; “Our Ukraine” – 119; the CPU – 63;
the SDPU (u) – 31; BYT – 23; the SPU – 22.
May, 28 V. Lytvyn was elected the Chairman of the
2002 Supreme Council. Parliamentary opposition
was represented by BYT, the SPU, the CPU
and “Our Ukraine”.
June, 20 The faction “Unitary Ukraine” fell apart.
2002 Seven new factions were established in the
parliament on its basis.
November, 16 The Prime Minister A. Kinakh resigned.

November, 21 V. Yanukovych was assigned the Prime
2002 Minister. The Supreme Council by majority
of votes (234 – “for”) approved V.
Yanukovych the head of the government.
Parliamentary opposition did not participate
in voting. The agreement of coordination and
solidary responsibility of parliament’s
majority and coalition government was
signed.
May, 26 The meeting of the Council of National
2003 Security and Defence. It was resolved to send
Ukrainian peacemaking mission to Iraq.
