December, 2 The beginning of the international
1991 recognition of Ukraine. Poland and Canada
were the first states to recognize Ukraine (on
December, 2). Hungary – on December, 3,
Latvia and Lithuania – on December, 4,
Russia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bolivia, Argentina
– on December, 5, the USA – on December,
25. 68 states recognized Ukraine during
December, 1991. By the end of 1992 Ukraine
had been recognized by 132 countries.
December, 2 The intercommunication regiment of the 13-th
1991 army (Vilen Martyrosian, a regiment
commander) raised the blue-and-yellow flag;
on December, 23 the regiment was the first to
make fealty to Ukraine.
December, 5 The Supreme Council adopted the appeal “To
1991 parlamentaries and peoples of the world”,
where it underlined the invalidity of the
treaty, concluded in 1922 regarding the
establishment of the USSR.
December, 6 The Supreme Council adopted the Law
1991 “About armed forces of Ukraine”. It banned
to use the armed forces for assignments other
than the state defence without resolution of
the Supreme Council, K. Morozov became the
first Minister of Defence.
