Summer The split of the Rukh of Ukraine. Some
1993 members left the majority of V. Chornovil
and established the All-Ukrainian Movement
(Rukh) headed by L. Skoryk and M.
Porovsky.
July, 2 The Supreme Council approved “The main
1993 lines of foreign policy of Ukraine”. The main
principles were:
1) sequence, equality mutual respect;
2) non-interference into internal affairs of
other states;
3) absence of territorial claims to other states;
4) recognition of international law priority;
5) nuclear-free status.
September The Supreme Council complied with L.
1993 Kuchma’s request and discharged him from
duties of Prime Minister. L. Kravchyuk
headed the government, Y. Zviahilsky started
to perform functions of the Prime Minister.
January The Presidents of Ukraine, Russia and the
1994 USA signed a tripartite statement and
agreement of liquidation of nuclear weapon
in Ukraine. The agreement was signed in
Moscow. After dissolution of the USSR, 15%
of its nuclear potential was on the territory of
Ukraine (176 intercontinental ballistic
missiles and nearly 3 thousand units of tactic
nuclear weapon). That is why, Ukraine held
the third position after the USA and Russia in
terms of nuclear potential. In its Declaration
of Sovereignty Ukraine announced about its
intention to become a nucleus-free state. The
disarmament, though, demanded big expenses
