                              their goals were: democratic development of
                              Ukraine  with  the  socialist  perspective,  its
                              autonomy  within  the  structure  of  federal
                              Russia.
            April,  6-8  (19- The  All-Ukrainian  National  Congress  in
            21)               Kyiv.  More  than  900  representatives  of
            1917              Ukrainian  political  parties  and  public
                              organizations  of  all  social  sections  and
                              regions  of  Ukraine  participated.  Ukrainians
                              from abroad were also present. The congress
                              proclaimed  the  C.C.  to  be  the  supreme
                              national  power,  the  representative  of
                              Ukrainian people and delegated it the right to
                              speak  on  behalf  of  all  people.  The  new
                              membership  of  the  C.C.  was  elected  (118
                              members). The congress confirmed the  main
                              political  goal  (programme)  –  gaining
                              national  and  territory  autonomy.  M.
                              Hrushevsky  was  elected  the  head;  S.
                              Yefremov and V. Vynnychenko were elected
                              his deputies. The Small Council was formed
                              to deal with current issues.
            April, 18         The  beginning  of  Ukrainian  army  units’
            1917              formation. The first Ukrainian army unit was
                              established  –  B.  Khmelnytsky  regiment,
                              which enumerated 3 thousand soldiers. They
                              were  Ukrainians,  who  gathered  at  the
                              gathering point and asked to send them to the
                              front as a separate Ukrainian unit. The group
                              was  organized  by  several  officers,  the
                              representatives  of  “P.  Polubot’ko  Ukrainian
                              military  club”,  headed  by  lieutenant  M.
