            1896              After  the  failure  of  the  “new  era”  policy,  a
                              part of populists headed by O. Barvinsky and
                              S. Sembratovych, a metropolitan of Ukrainian
                              Greek-Catholic Church, founded the party of
                              clerical  orientation  –  the  Ruthenian-
                              Ukrainian Christian Union.
            1899              A  part  of  populists,  dissatisfied  with  the
                              policy  of  their  party  members  and  the  left
                              wing  of  Ruthenian-Ukrainian  Radical  Party
                              founded  Ukrainian  National-Democratic
                              Party  (UNDP).  I.  Franko,  K.Levytsky,  M.
                              Hrushevsky became its leaders. The People’s
                              Committee,  its  governing  body,  called  for
                              fight   for   independent     Ukraine    and
                              strengthening  the  feeling  of  unity  with
                              Ukrainians  of    Dnieper  Ukraine.  Soon  it
                              became  the  most  numerous  party  in  the
                              western Ukraine.
            1898              The  first  volume  of    “The  History  of
                              Ukraine-Rus”  by  M.  Hrushevsky  was
                              published.
            1899              The    formation    of   Ukrainian    Social
                              Democratic Party (USDP) in Halychyna. M.
                              Hankevych, S. Vityk, Y. Bachynsky were its
                              leaders. They were trying to achieve socialism
                              by means of reforms, defended class interests
                              of workers supported legal means of struggle.
