Russian  Archaeological  Congress.    Seven
                              volumes  of  ethnographic  and  statistical
                              materials  were  collected,  prepared  and
                              published. In 1873 the Community members
                              founded  Historical  society  of  Nestor-
                              chronicler, in 1875 they bought out a Russian
                              newspaper  “Kyivsky  Telegraph”,  which  was
                              their printing organ during a  year.  “The Old
                              Community”  bought  T.  Shevchenko’s  grave
                              in Kaniv and with the assistance of Zolotonos
                              zemstvo arranged it and put an iron cross on
                              it.  They also laid a large park and built stairs
                              up  to  the  hill.  In  1876  the  newspaper  was
                              closed, South-Western Department of Russian
                              Geographical  Society  was  liquidated.  Active
                              members  of  the  community  movement  were
                              persecuted. P. Chubynsky left for Petersburg,
                              F. Vovk, S Podolynsky and M. Dragomanov
                              went abroad. Later, in the second half of the
                              70-s  young  Ukrainian  intellectuals  became
                              dissatisfied  with  a  moderate  cultural  activity
                              of  communities.  More  radical  societies
                              appeared,  which  were  called  “The  Young
                              Communities”.
            1872              A metallurgic works of Novorossiysk society
                              was opened on the river Kalmius in Bakhmut
                              district.  It  used  to  belong  to  John  Youz,  an
                              English capitalist. A  mining  village Yuzivka
                              was laid nearby (Donetsk at present).
