GENERAL PURPOSE INFORMATION SYSTEMS

                       These are enterprise-wide systems used by one or more functional


               units. Such systems provide data sharing among various functional units

               and provide a more up-to-date and accurate view of what is happening in

               the organization. The five of general-purpose information systems are 1)

               Office  information  system  2)  Transaction  processing  system,  3)

               Management information system 4) Decision support system 5) Expert


               systems.



                       OFFICE INFORMATION SYSTEM (OIS)

                       It is an information system that is used by employees to perform

               their tasks using computers and other electronic devices. These systems


               help increasing employee productivity and boost communication among

               employees.

                       Almost  every  organization  has  some  form  of  OIS.  Some  typical

               office  automation  system  includes  Document  Management  System,


               Message handling System, Teleconferencing system, and Office support

               system.

                       Typical  application  programs  used  in  OIS  are  Word  Processors,

               Spreadsheets, Databases, Presentation, E-mail, Web browser, Web Page


               Authoring,  etc.  OIS  also  includes  communication  technology  such  as

               voice, mail, fax, video conferencing, and electronic data interchange.
