BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE (BI)
Business Intelligence (BI) is a set of applications and technologies
to acquire, sort, analyze, and provide access to information to help users
make more informed and better decisions. Some common BI applications
are decision support system (DDS), Query and Reporting, Online
Analytical Processing (OLAP), Statistical Analysis, and data mining.
OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) is a software tool to for analysis of
data stored in a database. Users can use OLAP to analyze different
dimensions.
The central component of OLAP is OLAP server. OLAP server is
an intermediary between a client and database management system.
OLAP server has an understanding of data organization in the database
and equipped with tools/functions to analyze this data. Every major
database system provides its OLAP server. In general terms, data mining
(also called knowledge discovery) refers to the process in which the data
is analyzed from different viewpoints and then summarized into useful
information that can be used for competitive advantage, e.g. to cut costs
or to increase revenue.
BUSINESS PROCESS MANAGEMENT (BPM)
Business Process Management is a set of enterprise activities
performed to optimize business processes such as employee hiring. BPM
