pursued  the  troops  of  Tatars  in  Podillya
                              region  together  with  local  Cossacks,  who
                              knew  much  about  the  territory.  In  1492  the
                              Grand prince of Lithuania Oleksandr wrote in
                              response to the Crimean khan Mengli I Giray
                              that he had ordered to find the property from
                              the  plundered  Tatar  ships  under  Tyahynya
                              and make a search among local Cossacks.
            1490-1492         The uprising under the command of Mukha,
                              it was the biggest uprising in Ukraine of the
                              14-th-15-th  centuries  against  Polish-szlachta
                              suppression. It enclosed Halychyna, Pokuttya,
                              Bukovyna, Moldavia. It ended in failure.
            1552-1557         The formation of the fortress on Khortytsia
                              island  by  the  Cherkasy  headman  Dmytro
                              Vyshnevetskyi. It initiated Zaporizhian Sich.
            1572              The formation of the Cossack register army
                              by  order  of  the  Polish  king  Sigismund  II
                              Augustus,  who  employed  300  Cossacks  for
                              public  service.  They  were  recorded  into  a
                              special list – the register. In 1576-1578 king
                              Stephen Bathory  increased the register up to
                              500 men and granted them a set of priviliges
                              (Latin – priva lex-private law):
                              1)  the right of rank land ownership (land was
                              given for service);
                              2) exemption from taxes;
                              3)  the  right  of  own  military,  administrative
                              and court jurisdiction;
                              4)  payment for the service;
                              5)  imperial regalia, guns;
                              6)  The  town  of  Trakhtemyriv  with  a
                              monastery and a hospital, etc.
