1569 The Union of Lublin of Poland and
Lithuania. According to it:
1) the Polish kingdom and Grand principality
of Lithuania were united into one state - the
Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth);
2) the common king, who was elected by
szlachta at Convocation Seim;
3) common seim and senate;
4) common monetary unit;
5) common foreign policy;
6) the right to acquire lands for the Polish
szlachta in Lithuania and the Lithuanian
szlachta in Poland.
At the same time the Grand principality of
Lithuania retained a certain autonomy having
its own judicial system, laws, army, local self-
government, etc. The Grand principality of
Lithuania included only the regions of
Berestey and Pinsk; The overwhelming
majority of Ukrainian lands were the integral
parts of Poland: Eastern Halychyna,
Volhynia, Podillya, Kyiv regions, the part of
Left-bank Ukraine. These territories were
divided into Volhynian, Bratslav, Kyiv, Rus
(Eastern Halychyns) voivodeships. Later,
after the year of 1618 (Truce of Deulino of
Poland and Russia) Chernihiv and the part of
Ukrainian lands became the part of Belz
voivodeship.
