September, 30 The pre-term elections to the Supreme
2007 Council of Ukraine. 37 million citizens were
put on the electoral roll. 3354 official
observers from foreign countries,
international organizations and political
parties came to Ukraine.
The Party of Regions got 34.4% – 175
deputy’s mandates;
BYT – 30.7%– 156 mandates;
Bloc “Our Ukraine” – People’s Self-Defence
– 14.2 %–72 mandates;
the CPU – 5.4% – 27 mandates;
Lytvyn’s bloc – 3.96%– 20 mandates.
The SPU did not enter the parliament as it got
2.86%.
2.73% did not support any of the political
force.
November, 22 The Day of Freedom was celebrated in
2007 Ukraine to mark the beginning of “The
Orange Revolution”.
December, 4 Arseniy Yatseniuk was elected the Chairman
2007 of the Supreme Council. His candidature was
supported by all coalition members, who had
got voting ballots – 227 deputies from BYT
and “Our Ukraine – People’s Self- Defence
bloc”. All other factions did not take part in
voting. A. Yatseniuk declared, “Thus we
proved that coalition was formed not only on
paper, the next step of ours will be to elect the
